On Australia Day, the Gold Coast will see fireworks that will rival New Year’s Eve! The spectacular display will be launched from the barges anchored on Broadwater. The free event will begin at 4pm and end at 7.30pm. Afterwards, the Gold Coast’s Broadwater Parklands will feature tantalising food trucks and free live music. Local favourites like Mason Rack Band will headline the free event, backed by a huge line-up of local talent.
The community event will also feature rides, BMX stunt shows, and a water playground. The Perth Heat, the local baseball team, will give autographs to fans at the event. A skydiving display will also thrill the crowd. There will be a 30-minute fireworks display over the Swan River, as well as live music and entertainment zones. However, be aware that some events have been scaled back or cancelled due to an outbreak of COVID-19.
Despite the heightened safety measures, COVID marshals will be at the event to ensure safety. In addition to spot checks, COVID marshals will be on hand to administer booster shots to those who need them. If you’re concerned about your health, you can also head to one of the free medical clinics located at the event site. However, make sure you’re fully vaccinated before heading to the beach.
For families, Australia Day is a great excuse to visit the theme parks in the hinterland. Dreamworld and SeaWorld are both huge, world-famous attractions and on the Gold Coast, they are turning their theme parks into a tropical Aussie paradise. While details of the events and activities have not yet been released, previous years have included roving entertainment and sausage sizzles, which have featured lamingtons and ANZAC biscuits for sale.
The event is also accompanied by the Sydney Harbour Ferrython. This event, held at Sydney Harbour at 10am, features colourfully-dressed vessels, a 21-gun salute, and a service personnel display. The F-35 Lightning II jets fly overhead as the national anthem is played. They will then perform an impressive 10-minute aerobatic show as a final touch to the spectacular day on the Gold Coast.

Alternatively, if you prefer to spend a day away from the crowds, you could also take in some live music. A local minifest, Double Baked, is a great place to start. Last year, it sold out quickly, and this year, the crew at Mo’s Desert Clubhouse have put together a stellar line-up of Australian bands, including Young Henrys and Stone & Wood. Proceeds from the event will be split between the local community, the Kirrawe Indigenous Corporation, and the Red Cross Fire Victims Appeal.
